La Briouze is a hamlet located 3 km south-east of the town of Sanxay. A beautiful residence known as "Château de la Briouze", it was built by the de Conty family. This family bears a coat of arms of azure with a cross patté argent, flanked by four roses or. In addition to the château, Briouze has two farms. One of them was burnt down in 1944 during the war and has since been rebuilt.
The Château de la Briouze has undergone two major construction phases after the passing of the de Conty family, ruined during the Revolution. The central part of the château was built in 1836. The site has been extensively modified by the owner, Madame Gérard, after her death. 1870 The two wings were added. The south-west façade of the central building has been redesigned, with nine windows instead of the previous five. The frame of the central section is made of oak, while that of the wings is made of softwood. Cast-iron windows have been added to the roofs. The building was constructed in rubble and ashlar around the openings. The interior of the château has lost its flagstones, parquet floors and stone fireplaces.
In the past, the castle had a chapel. The building containing the double latrines in 1836 was enlarged to accommodate a bread ovennow in a poor state of repair. A orangery extends the building.
On the north side, the courtyard of honour is surrounded by a long barn with a four-sloped roof. In one corner of the courtyard, leaning against the barn, a small dovecote still has a few nesting boxes. Its original architecture is made of wood and brick.
The castle has several basins with granite edging, providing a water supply in the event of fire. Since 1836, a beautiful winery was built of ashlar and rubble stone and is plastered with lime and river sand. The barrels were stored on the ground floor, while the grain was stored on the first floor. The entrance to the château used to be near the wine storehouse, facing the court of honour.
